Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

Wisdom teeth are the last (third) set of molars that usually come through (erupt) in your late teens or early twenties. Most people have four—two at the top and two at the bottom.

About Me

I’m a dual-qualified Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, holding both dental (BDS) and medical (MBBS) degrees, and I’m a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (FRCS OMFS).

I work in close partnership with Mr Simon Holmes, and together we offer expert, patient-focused care across both NHS and private settings. I currently practise at Barts Health NHS Trust, Harley Street, London Bridge Hospital, and LIPS at Battersea Power Station.

why i chose this career

I was drawn to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery because of the unique blend of form and function it demands. Facial conditions—whether due to trauma, pathology, or developmental issues—can affect far more than appearance. They can impact confidence, communication, eating, and identity.

Being able to restore someone’s ability to smile, eat, or speak without pain is what motivates me. Whether it’s a wisdom tooth infection, a locked jaw, or the aftermath of facial trauma, I take pride in diagnosing problems carefully and offering treatments that are personal, precise, and effective.

what i specialise in

Over time, I’ve developed a special interest in the management of mandibular condylar fractures and TMJ (jaw joint) disorders. These are often life-limiting conditions, and helping patients regain jaw function—and with it, their confidence—is one of the most rewarding parts of my practice.

Transitioning from trauma surgery to managing more chronic joint pain and movement limitation has been a natural progression in my career, and I apply the same detailed, functional approach across both areas.

my areas of expertise

  • Facial trauma, especially condylar fractures of the mandible (head, neck, base)
  • TMJ disorders, including restricted opening, joint pain, and internal derangement
  • Wisdom tooth removal and complex dental extractions
  • Jaw realignment (orthognathic) surgery, including both functional and aesthetic indications
  • Oral pathology, including biopsy and removal of suspicious or pre-cancerous lesions
  • Facial skin surgery, such as removal of cysts, moles, and minor skin cancers
  • Paediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery

research and training

I’m actively involved in clinical research into condylar fractures and facial trauma. My work focuses on outcomes after condylar head injuries, comparing surgical versus conservative treatment, and developing evidence-based approaches to guide decision-making.

I also hold an honorary senior clinical lectureship at Queen Mary University of London. I regularly teach postgraduate trainees, speak at conferences, and examine in the field of craniofacial trauma.

how i work

I believe great surgery is about more than technical skill. It’s about clear, honest communication and genuine partnership—both with patients and with referrers. I always aim to make sure the people I treat understand their options and feel supported every step of the way.

beyond the clinic

I live in London with my wife and children. When I’m not operating or teaching, I enjoy cycling, watching cricket, and spending time with my family. That sense of balance—between physical health and emotional wellbeing—is something I carry into my clinical practice too.

in summary

I specialise in the management of facial trauma—particularly mandibular condylar fractures—and TMJ disorders, providing outcome-focused care backed by research and experience. I’m committed to clear communication, collaborative working, and doing what’s right for each patient.
